Fundraising Program Tips...

Setting Goals

How are you going to get anywhere if you don't know where you are going?

In fundraising, the first thing to do is set your goal.

How much do you want to raise? Or how much do you need to raise? What will you use the money for? When do you need the money by?

Once you set your fundraising goal, you'll need to decide how to publicize your campaign.  Tell EVERYONE about your fundraiser and goal! - Your members, supporters, friends, family, neighbors - EVERYONE!  Tell your organization's leaders. Tell the community. Publicity should continue throughout the campaign. You'll generate more support and motivate your fundraising team.

Use letters, newsletters, posters and announcements - get creative! Don’t forget free radio public service announcements .

Make sure you identify a specific purpose for which the funds will be used. The purpose should be tied to helping to fulfill your organization's vision and  mission. People will give more readily to a specific purpose.

Your Fundraising Coordinator

When selecting a person to coordinate  your fundraiser, look for a cheerleader.

Choose the person that's going to be excited about the fundraiser and how the proceeds will be used. . A person who can motivate others will be a KEY asset. Of course your leader should also be organized.

It does take time to keep the long distance signup forms, pre-paid cards and money organized. Blessed Hope provides tools and advice to make it as easy as possible.

Coordinator's Check List

1. Be sure to communicate your group's goals to the members. Encourage each member to set individual goals - how many they'll sell. Use a goal chart to track your accomplishments.

2. Give members ideas on how to sell the card or signup long distance and who to contact.

3. Keep an eye on progress and advise your Blessed Hope agent on regular basis

Standard Long Distance Checklist

  • Prepare and distribute publicity announcements. Include ID# and web address in all promotional materials.

  • Customize signup flyer with your info and make needed copies

  • Appoint someone to enter signup forms into back office computer system. (Easy task, job aid provided)

  • Send or give thank you note to customer.

Handling Money

If you are using pre-paid cards as your fundraiser, your fundraiser will go more smoothly if you assign two people who are experienced and comfortable with handling money. One to serve as treasurer; one as fundraising coordinator.

Both should be present when counting the money collected. Make sure the money team members collect and turn in for pre-paid cards match the customer order forms. Both should sign all requests for money from your organization. Accurate records of all money collected are necessary.

Deposit money in a timely manner, preferably daily. In between bank deposits, make arrangements to keep money under lock and key.

Blessed Hope provides customer order sheets to give you  an organized way of keeping track of all pre-paid card orders and money collected by each team member.

Make it a GREAT Finish!

Celebrate your successful fundraiser with a fun, energy-filled meeting. Have every team member turn in their money or signup forms. Record sales to determine the top sellers. Announce the amount of money raised or signups.

Give special recognition of  top sellers. This is also a great time to take a group photo. You'll encourage teamwork and congratulate everyone on a job well done!
